I'm on the no cupholder bandwagon, my 72 Newport is a bench, I find when you add a hump hugger you don't use the middle seat in the front the few unplanned times you get the chance, my 77 Delta 88 has buckets added by the previous owner, it had a big hump hugger console in between, it was convenient but I found it ended up being full of junk and dust, that's my housekeeping habits to blame though, I try to plan my trips with my Yeti mug that it's not too hot and I will drink most of it before I have to stop, half full or less it leans against the trans tunnel pretty secure with little worry of spillage if you forget it there when you take off, I'm not saying having cupholders isn't OK, one definitely lives on the edge if they have their morning coffee on the run daily without them, to sound a little crazy the cupholder is a tool of the rat race, too busy in the morning to have time to drink enough coffee at home or have another at work, too busy on family vacation to stop at a park to eat, we all do too much at once at times, I've been trying to slow that down, but cupholders aren't to blame lol
I can relate to the multi tasking while driving comments, most memorable moment was back in my early 20s, I borrowed a co worker's manual pickup, he drove my Nova home from work and I took his S10 for the night, when I got to the first stop sign in the morning and had to downshift with my coffee cup and cigarette I didn't have enough hands, a shock from my regular morning routine in my automatic
