1969 Imperial progress thread

If it is the same as my 300, you have to remove the two brackets under the car first. One straddles the rear of the transmission, the other straddles the drive shaft. You will find at least three seat bolts under there. I just went through that ordeal on Saturday, PIA!

Thanks! Will try that tomorrow! Important thinks like this are not explained in the FSM..

My rear seat belts cleaned up nicely just with moderately warm water and a little washing powder in a bucket with an old manual "squeezer", don't even know how this thing is called in German. But wait for some more info from others if or if not it's bad for the seat belt fibres; I didn't care for the rears as they're never used anyways.

I'll be in Rüsselsheim two to three times this year, maybe we can arrange a little inspection of the car. :)

Ah I forgot to mention, I found a second Build sheet under the drivers seat!

Lets see what the others will say. I thought about putting them into cloth bags and wash them in the washing machine?!

Sure, tell me if you're in Rüsselsheim and we can do this little inspection.

I never thought about that Oo

Just the second one have matching the sequential number with the VIN.

How cound that be? Not the original backseat?

I edited my comment but you already replied.

Sometimes you find BS from other cars in the wrong car. One may be for another car and just got stuck in

No..... different paper wound up in different cars all the time. These were never meant to be collectors pieces, simply production tools.

Well it's cool one matches so run with it. I'd be careful with it as it may be brittle and go make a good color copy of it and send a scan to Matt so he can decode it.

Hm. ok.

I'll scan the second to my car belonging build sheet tomorrow.

I'm glad at least one is belonging to my car!

Yep that's all the matters .. and it's in very good legible condition so it's a WIN !! Make it a color scan if possible

I'll do that!

I made the digital reproduction one I offered to you all in another thread to have a "modern" copy

Congradulations Julian .... I know how excited you must be.

The front seat nuts are accessed from beneith the car, 4 per seat. There may be a large plate obscuring the two inner most nuts. 4 bolts will remove that.

CAREFULLY ...... place your original build sheet into a clear, acid free sheet protector....!! Do this first....! Make copys and then place it in a cool, dark place for storage.
You can then reference, and even write on the copys.

I'll start working on the sheet tonite.

I am glad the bird finally made it's way home. Congrats Julian. Sorry the car got banged up a little in transport. That sucks. I bet it was tricky moving that beast around with out brakes. I hope you aren't dissapointed. I did my best to describe it and take pics. Enjoy your new project.

Julian; on the belts, you can indeed put them in cloth bags and run them through the washing machine just fine. You can also take each belt and scrub them with warm, soapy water and a stiff brush (dish soap works great!). Then rinse them under warm water and hang them up so they drip-dry. They will be stiff after they dry, but if you roll them up, then unroll them and repeat several times, they'll loosen up to their original texture and flexibility. Be sure to spray a good dry lubricant into the latches so they don't rust!
