1969 Imperial progress thread

the water pump was filled with that damn stuff too... It's not like "cement", more like "thick crunchy yogurt" :tard:

No helping hands. My father helped me holding the steering wheel while I was unbolting the steering column from the power steering gear. Thats all.

I tested the PlastiFix tonight and this stuff is awesome!

Very nice job, Vodka.
I found out something about PlastFix the hard way.
The activator is so volatile it evaporates in six months even in a sealed bottle.
Use it or lose it...

You absolutely have your work cut out for you Julian but from what I've seen so far I have the utmost confidence in you and consider it a privilege to be able to watch you restore this car.

Thats good to know, I will try to seal the bottle better to preserve the activator! Maybe this will help

Thanks Matt! I like details and unfortunately I'm a damn perfectionist. Mostly this is a curse, but when things are done, they look even better :) And I'm not in a hurry, I'll do things gradually and I will try to reuse as most as possible parts! (because this is what I like and, of course, because the parts supply is not available over here) ;)

I will paint the instrument cluster with semigloss clear coat. Does anybody did this before? I'm a little concerned because the heat and cold expansion could cause cracks?!

I'm pretty sure the car was in P when I removed the steeling column. This should work too, right?

Yes, park works for trying to rotate the engine over by hand, in fact cars have been known to run in park...:poke:

Your starting to scare me Julian,

You've got the entre dash and all the interior out ....... The entire front clip off, and your tearing into the engine. I hope you have a good organizational system to keep track of parts and a lot of space to store them. It may be years before some of that stuff goes back into the car.

Being a first time restro project you my want to slow up and focus on individual areas.

As for the engine ........ It needs to come out, be dissassembled and hot tanked or it wll never cool right. You can get your engine parts, (crank, heads, rods/pistons, etc), to the machine shop then too. I'm sure you did not want to hear that, but it will need to be done before that engine ever runs right again.

I hate to be the one to put a pin in your baloon Julian. I understand the enthusiasm. You must be carefull not to dig the hole to deep. Focus............!!!!!!!

I'm thinking the same thing. I'd be scared shitless to get this far into something like this without some kind of system setup to handle everything......in stages.

Will there anything be left in place till next month, the earliest date I could take a look at the car ?
