1969 Imperial progress thread

It was US-built at the Lynch Road plant. I still have the build sheet on this! There was a tag attached to the radiator support that "Plymouth" and that is was "Built for Export". Next to that, was another tag that the Belgian importer attached. The VIN was stamped along the passenger-side frame rail, as you look down the engine compartment where the inner fender meets with that frame rail. The letters and number were quite large, in fact, and was done by the Belgian importer.

It is one of three identical cars shipped to Belgium for use as funeral cars. Two stayed in Belgium and were owned by brothers who has a mortuary. The third went to Sweden. I have no idea if the other two exist anymore. In any case, it was one of just 284 '67 Belvedere I six-passenger wagons with 225/3-spd manual built; and with all the XHD goodies it came with, it was probably one of just three built to that specification.

Sorry for the minor detour!!!

I'm not sure if it was clear what I meant ;)

Hi Julian,

that metal plate broke off of the lower control arm and turned 180°. It is usually welded to the front of the lower control arm and receives the rod connecting the sway bar.

Thanks Dan! That's what I thought. It's a very low milage car but some things I found are confusing me... Like this...

Supposed mileage is meaningless without records to back it up, but after extensive storage in bad conditions it doesn't really matter anyways IMHO.

Bet that got broken off in transport. They hooked to that and it broke.

No, there are no "new" breaking points. According to the rust it was broken when parked :/

Sure, I have no prove that these are the true miles, but according to the wear tracks, it might be true. but eventually it doesn't matter.

Stinginess is the mother of invention ;) It's Cheapo v1. I'm planing v2 right now, because the biggest ikea box is not big enought! But for now, it's great! :)

I started to clean the master cylinder too, but it was a mass without draining it.

Will continue on that tomorrow.

went through the whole thread, great job on the carb, love your blasting cabinet, keep the pic's coming. good luck

You're probably better off replacing the master cylinder rather than spending a lot of time reworking it. The bores tend to wear along with the rubber seals and you will play hell getting the bore good enough to use. You'll pay as much for the repair kit (if you can get one) as a rebuilt or new master cylinder anyway.

Yes, I know it's expensive getting parts shipped to you...

Big_john, You do realize that will just motivate him to rework it any way :poke:.

Great progress Vdk, love the blasting cabinet! I broke down and spent the money on a Harbor Fright unit, but wouldn't have had I seen your post first.

Stan you should have figured out how resourceful Julian is by this point. Julian, I see you're going to be at this for quite a long time if you're going to insist on making the tools you need for the resto but it'll make the thread that much more interesting and entertaining. Nice work brother!

$150 for a reman Cardone master cylinder / booster combo sounds ok, but is not in stock at Rockauto.

Maybe my cousin can bring one with her when she visit me in summer...

I think you'll be better off getting a new one.

I'm going to clean it anyway. A rebuild kit is available for "just" ~$50 here in germany. I will give it a try. If it doesn't work I can still buy the reman cardone unit.
