1969 Imperial progress thread

I have my problems with the englisch grammer and syntax sometimes because unfortunately I was one of the kids who were not interested in englisch in school. My deep love for the country, people and language came when my parents gave up forcing me to learn it. But then, I was out of school already and had to learn it all by myself...

But you're right, the german educational system is great compared with the public US system. The private US system is another story, I have this first hand from my grand cousin!

That fuel pump is not original (not painted) engine color I don't think carter was around in 1994 they had already been sold off to weber, but anything is possible.

I think that's what he's saying: the car wasn't totally abandoned after it was parked. The date code shows that someone tried to get it running in the '90s.

It was paintes in turquoise but the paind came off when I brushed the dirt off. A rest of the paint is still there, around the "2", the "R" and the bolt holes!

My guess was, that this is a dacecode, but maybe it's not?!

Nope by 1994 almost all auto parts were being made in china and with the paint on it probably original. Alan is right date code would be stamped at the time of assembly not cast in.

I never inspected the seats closer until I started to clean the backseat today and realized that the seats are not genuine leather, but just leatherette :O I thought when they say "leather seats" they mean genuine leather... That's sad..!

I am going to make sure that my bell nuts don't line up with my casting line. I'd hate to have improperly clocked fuel lines.

Ah I forgot to mention, I found a second Build sheet under the drivers seat!

I'm only at page 53 in this thread and have resisted the urge to reply to comments from so long ago. But this one is an exception. The broadcast sheets were only ever intended to be used by the workers on the assembly line to install the proper parts on the car coming down the line to their workstation. Once they were through their work and the car left their area, they no longer required the sheet. Rather than station a garbage can at that point, they simply stuffed the sheets into the car somewhere that wouldn't be seen by the end owner in the normal operation of the car. So the car essentially became a rolling garbage can on its own. When you end up with two broadcast sheets in a car, and one of them is for another car, that's an indicator that the cars reached the end of the assembly line and then went to what was called "The Major Repair Hole" in assembly plant slang. This is where repairs that were not quick and easy were done. In this case, it looks like something needed to be repaired that required at least the rear seat to be pulled. It also indicates that several cars were side by side in this repair bay for the same issue. All of the rear seats would have been pulled out and simply put into one big pile. As the repair of each car was finished a set of rear seats would be pulled from the pile (all being the same colour and fabric/leather) and reinstalled. Nobody in the plant checked or cared if the seats that were grabbed originally came from the car they were going into.

That's the #1 reason that you can find more than one broadcast sheet in one car and find no broadcast sheet in another.

That's a great information, thanks! Sounds reasonable. And if you have other questions or constructive notes, feel free to post them here!

One (the larger one) is connected to a gauge, the other an idiot light.
There are people here asking about adding a gauge to their car, this is one way.

Either way this shows both ports on the back of the block.

Alan

Had an interesting discussion with a Chrysler engineer about those sending units. His position was that the idiot light provided better information than the gauge. The gauge sending unit uses a pulsed electrical supply, 5/second I believe, and is therefore slower to respond to a drop in oil pressure. The idiot light sending unit is a simple on/off switch which is actually set relatively high, so that if something fails in the oiling system, the light will provide you with a faster indication of trouble than the gauge. I still like the idea of a gauge, but I understand the logic of the idiot light too.

My snarky comments shouldn't be misconstrued: this place is freaking awesome.

And I really am going to check my bell nuts.

The seats on the bucket seat option are a combination of leather and vinyl. The area which joins the outer leather seat panels to the leather center panel with the button is vinyl. I was tempted to make it all leather when redoing mine, but I went with the factory configuration. It is possible that it was redone in all vinyl at some point on your car, though.

Now that I think of it, I have a family friend who travels to Bad Durkheim with some regularity. He's a bit of a car guy, too (not that you could tell from the ex-fleet Tauruses he seems to always buy). I'll ask him if he is willing to put a car part or two into his luggage next time he gets over that way. If he says yes, I'll let you know.

Neglected this thread a bit for the last couple of weeks. I'm about right on spot to this town. Let me know if I can be of help like taking over parts for temporary storage.

You guys are great! My cousin is coming to germany in a few weeks and will bring a few parts and tools! But I will definitely come back to your offers!
