1972 Fury III 360 101498 miles

Hey Gary, thanks for the thought food. Was 9.25 introduced in c-bodies sometime in 1973? Reason I ask is: I have 1973 FSM Chrysler/Plymouth. It lists 7.25, 8.25, 8.75 in chapter 3, but no 9.25.

What is gear and condition of your 9.25? Is it open diff?
The 9.25 was introduced in 72 up, it is an open diff, but I will have to check what ratio for you. Will get back to you soon on this.

Thanks Gary. Whenever you get to the ratio is fine. I'm in the middle of hidden headlight conversion, so I won't be doing anything about axle for a couple months at least.

Hi Bollotti. You can remove the bumper yourself, if you prop up the center of it on the jack or some kind of wooden block. It's a lot easier if you have somebody's help, so usually I get somebody to help.

Since your car has hidden headlight grill, it's going to be next to impossible to access the carriage bolts at the bumper. I always remove the bumper and bumper brackets together. Then I soak the carriage bolts at the bumper with WD-40 or some kind of break free and let them sit for a while, because it's so easy to turn the square carriage fitting in the bumper and then those things are almost impossible to get off.

It's better if you remove your front valence panel first. That's a matter of 6 bolts and 2 nuts. Disconnect the front turn signal wiring. Then your license plate, turn signals, and valence can be removed as a unit.

As far as bolts to move remove the bumper with the bumper bracket, there's 3 of those bolts and nuts each side on the back of the lower bumper brackets. Then there are those long center brackets that I'm sure you've seen that come from the front of the frame up to the top center of the bumper. Usually those aren't as rusty, and you can remove the nuts at the bumper so that's 2 more nuts. Then you've got too small horizontal brackets at the top of the bumper, which come out from the radiator support panel. Those are just 7/16 bolts and no big deal. Of course you gotta disconnect your wiring. Also your hidden headlight grill has 3 support brackets that attach to vertical brackets at the front of the radiator support panel. All the bolts holding those brackets together need to be removed. Then you can pull the bumper, brackets, and grill assembly with motor as a unit.

Battery Tray, new: 5/16 drill bit to slot both radiator support panel bolt holes toward radiator. I had to do this because the mounting bracket for my Champion aluminum radiator protrudes farther toward the outside of the car than the stock radiator bracket, so the new battery tray needed to mount slightly to the left of where it normally mounts. It's only about 1/4" off. NBD to slot the 2 holes. Rear bolt holes on tray lined up with strut and wheel well just fine. Now I have 4 mounting bolts instead of 2 View attachment 248610

What is the round hole in the wheel arch hidden under battery tray used for? Mine is rusted around the edges and thought the wheel arch had rusted through. Was going to patch hole, but looks like it is there for a reason? If so, will just tidy up edges with Dremel . Thanks
 
Do not know why hole is there. Had same question when I saw it. WTF? Just a way to quickly rust a corner of a battery tray. See no harm in a patch.

I kneel beside the open drivers door to perform electrical tests under the dash and at the kick panel connectors. If the key is in the ignition, there is always an annoying buzzing sound coming from somewhere under the dash. The obnoxious sound had to be found and eliminated. I realized that it was nothing more than a buzzer box that plugged into the top of the fuse box. I pulled the box out and all was calm and peaceful. The buzzer box will not be reinstalled. Wonder why someone put up with it for 46 years.
I just got the 72 wagon and that dang buzzer is irritating as heck... im pulling it! Thanks man
 
It's from a leaky battery, acid eats through the metal, and through the wheel well, and then the fender.
Mine will need to be patched too at some point Before that:
Awaiting hidden headlight grill parts from Montana and grill motor being rebuilt in Texas
Wish you were closer. Thought I might need 440 for another project. Cheapest 440 price I can find is $800 for need-rebuild 1973 with cast crank with 727 TF, and that's 3 hours away. Too much rust in project car, so I didn't go forward. Be nice to have source like you close by.
 
Weather warmed up enough for some bumper bracket paint
POR 15 Chassis Black is supposed to be best applied in 2 thin coats at temps above 55°F

Torque bumper bracket bolts and nuts 15-20'lbs, 2 rotations each side. Tighten all to 15, then all to 20. Tighter might have spun the carriage bolts in their square fittings. 1/4" thread inside bracket bolt. Kept that at 15.

Next Step: I have NOS grill frames coming from @marty mopar. $310 + $110 ship, Fedex ground, Arizona to Virginia. Montana Contact for repaired grill frames fell apart. Don't have anything from him. @kyle340 sent grill frames. Right side definitely repairable. Left side not so much: many tabs broken. Marty had matching pair NOS grill frames sitting on his shelf so decided to spend big money and get something with no broken tabs to repair and no warpage. Will uses Kyle's flip up grills and still looking at finding good left side stationary grill.

As a 7 year-old when these came out, I found that grill to be frightening. Like some evil bug's eyes.

LOL. We'll leave bugs to Volkwagons. My plan is for the car to look like it's wearing a really cool pair of sunglasses. Chrome frame, black lens, gold background.
Another day of cleanup. Worked on left side flip up grill for a couple hours. Also soaking machine screws and tab mounting clips in rust remover. I'm supposed to receive grill frames from Marty tomorrow, so I hope to be able to starting setting up the grill on the bumper soon.
