'67 Imperial Crown Coupe now added to the collection

The 1408 is a bit big for that engine IMHO a 1406 should work well. Good score btw! Seems to be a lot of decent cars from MT lately.

The replacement I went with is a edelbrock 1411. I just wanted a bolt on replacement, I hope this will do the job. I was wondering if cork gaskets were original from the factory. This car says 57K miles and while its been driven hard, it does look original.I'm also changing cap, wires and while this set isn't cheap ($85.00) I won't have any problems .

Any comments ?

I use the same wires and have had good success with them. They are available through your local Dodge dealer so careful on the feebay version. You will find #7 wire to be too short also #8 may be short. The 1411 may be a bit too much CFM for a stock engine.

I've got the 1411 back on my Imp and it's behaving quite well after some mods and adjustments. Keep in mind that I have a hotter cam and fresh heads with bigger exhaust valves.

too late to turn back, the carb is in the mail and I know nothing about carbs........

The wires were a piece of cake! What carb would be recommended that would be a direct replacement for a stock 440? I appreciate any comments.

Wait a minute, that carb you're currently running is not old. What's wrong with it? My guess is that it's either a 1406 or a 1411.

It's a 1408, perhaps 20-25 yrs old. stumbles at idle and dead spot at accelerations

The 1411 will likely do the same thing without some work.

Not much info out there on the 1408 but it does look like it's a 750 cfm like the 1411. Since you have the 1411 already on its way I'd open them both up side by side and see what the differences are. Ideally you could try to make the 1408 work and return the 1411. If you can't make the 1408 work for whatever reason(it might be a factory replacement carb for cars with egr) there are simple changes that can be done to your new 1411 that hopefully make it perform well for you but it really is too much carb for that bone stock 440. If you can trade it in on the 1406 you'd be better off or even better still if you spend a little more money and get away from the Performer series all together and upgrade to the Thunder series which I think is a much better carb. Although decent out of the box carbs, I'll never buy another Performer series carb again.

Thanks, I'll see what summit says about sending the 1411 back and exchange for 1406. What might the simple changes to the new 1411 be?. I don't know anything about carbs and there's a guy in town but he has a bad reputation. I had him rebuild my stock AFB for my 65 Chrysler and I see that its leaking, so there's really no place to send it. Is there a chance that I send YOU the new 1411 and you make the changes and I'd pay what it cost?

Totally agree with you there Matt. The 1806 Thunder series I have on my American 66-300 is awesome! The AVS carbs are so simple and work very well. They do run more money up here so I have been watching for good used ones to pop up.

They really are simple changes and they're laid out on this site. I'll see if I can find them and provide a link.

Thanks, is the thunder series 1806 a good choice for my applications, drop in replacement? And while I've got your attention. I'm going to completely rebuild my front budd disc brakes. can you suggest any oem replacement parts/services?

You'll want to have the calipers rebuilt with stainless steel sleeves, I used this company. I'm glad they are local to me because I had one leak after the rebuild and I just had to drive over with it and they stood behind thier work and fixed it.

There are no reproduction parts for the Budd system so hopefully your rotors have some life left in them, oh and you'll need to find nos brake pads because there are no reproductions available. Call Craig at Mobile Parts, he may have some of what you need. I bought my pads from him. I'll find his number for you, he has no website.
Here's a link to a thread with his contact info, he goes by mobileparts.
