Convertible Fury - 1970

Why is there a rubber washer here? It was present on several of my seat belt assemblies. How hard to you torque down seat belt bolts? It seems like there needs to be a little bit of room so the metal part of the belt can move.

The bolt when tightened wont compress the belt mounts together and will allow them to spin, the rubber is probably only there to take up any slack.

Even though the carpet is not going to fit right, it feels good to start putting this thing back together.

I have a question about how to attach the rear, side seat belts. Below are some pictures of how they were attached when I took this apart. It doesn't seem right because the bolts that hold the bracket to the floor impede the movement of the belt. It is hard to bolt the belt to the bracket and then it won't move because of the floor bolts. The FSM doesn't show the bracket. Anyone know how it is supposed to go?

If I remember correctly, there is a shoulder on the bolt. The belt sits on the shoulder and when the bolt is tightened the face of the shoulder is snug against the bracket leaving the belt able to swivel on the shoulder. The interior belts just bolt tight to the floor.

There is a shoulder on the bolt so the belt can swivel, but the bolts going into the floor prevent he swivel. I could force it, but it would damage the plastic on the belt. You can see in the first pic how the plastic is pinched up against the bolt head. I suspect that the belt was never swiveled up into the use position. Maybe it is just a bad design.

Seat belts were a new thing back then, most were just bolted to the floor and the belt just lay on the seat when not in use. Customers didn't like the clutter so the fixed outer belts like yours were tried with some fitting problems. I think in '71 they moved the middle bolt forward to allow the belt to swivel. On my car I replaced all of my belts and buckles with modern belts so I don't have that problem. I thought about using he factory belts but decided "new strong" has to beat "old questionable" .

Do the two metal extensions on the bottom of the rear seat back fit down inside the brackets welded to the body or do they lie up against the brackets? I don't have any pics from when I removed the seat. Because lag bolts were used, it seems like they would fit up against the brackets instead of inside of them. thx.

Made some good progress with most of the family out of town yesterday. Here are some pics of when I first got it and from yesterday.

Thx for the link, I'll keep that in mind for future reference. Lower cushion and side seat belts in today. I used a Drexel to remove some of the plastic on the side seat belts so they can swivel.

Is it possible that the boot cover could have shrunk by 4 inches or more? I got it all cleaned up and then found it is way too small.

This photo was taken through the far right dash heater/ac vent. It is looking down and just next to the glove box. There is a rectangular electrical part affixed to the inside of the dash and an unconnected bundle of wires (one red, two yellow, one blue). What is the electrical part for, and is the bundle of wires related to it?

I think it's the key buzzer too. Check the FSM for the wiring to be sure.

Seat tracks came together nicely. Everything is back together except I need to set the front seat in.

Big improvement over what came out of it.

Are these headrests adjustable? How?

Also, are seat covers available for just the driver side for this configuration?
