Overheating problem with Madeline

Nope something right off of my NY leaked from day one till I put a new one on.

Have the same problem again - overheating:
years ago I recored the rad from a 2 row to a 3 row one (a rad shop in Innsbruck),
high flow water pump with a new housing ,a high flow 180 degree thermostat, 7 blade fan, a selfmade shroud...
Working fine since I drove up to the mountain (6000 feet) during a hot summer with traffic jam -
overheating at its best!
the result now: the rad is filled with rusty deburrs and particels, some rows are not in function., the flow is dramatically felt down...
what to do: fushing the radiator in the opposite flow than usually- (upside down) - to get the particels out of the rad.

Hope that helps,

Heli

MDH, I assume you have a clutch fan and the proper shroud. It sounds like the clutch fan is not functioning...ie it gets hot when standing still and you get some cooling when the car is in motion. I had this symptom with my Imperial and a new clutch for the fan fixed it.

c, it's a non-clutch fan, runs all of the time. no shroud on it, does not look like there ever was one either.

Talked to the rad shop earlier, going to take it off later today and drop it off there tomorrow......with the crud I found on the thermo and gooseneck I am wondering what the pump fins look like

You might as well replace the water pump since you have it apart.

i like the edelbrock, not the price though! i do think I might repl the pump while i'm doing the rad, prob a good precautionary measure.

Can someone explain this clutch fan stuff? The ad for the reg one says used mostly on clutch fan cars, in my experience very few from 1970 that have a clutch fan.

the pumps i'm used to looking at have an odd shape to them and includes the upper hose inlet

can anyone clarify whether or not this car would have had a shroud from new? I've read some stuff that some of the 22" b and e cars came w/o them, even perf cars. If it should have one, this might cause it to run a bit hotter.

I've seen some and owned a 68 polara wagon with a 383 2 barrel no shroud with a fixed fan. My dads belvedere 1 has a ltp no shroud and a 4 blade fan I think.

I bought my brand new 1973 Ralleye Challenger with a 340 Magnum with no A/C and it didn't have a shroud but it did have a fan clutch.

I show a part # of 2998330 for 70 & 71 C-body with 22" and 383/440. That doesn't mean that it would have had one originally, it just means that there was one available.

Look at your build sheet, if it was equipped with a fan clutch originally it'll be on the sheet under engine accessories. The last two digits of the part number for the fan will be on there too. I'm guessing though that if no a/c there'll be no fan clutch and obviously only a 22" rad..
