Overheating problem with Madeline

I show a part # of 2998330 for 70 & 71 C-body with 22" and 383/440. That doesn't mean that it would have had one originally, it just means that there was one available.

I sent Mark those numbers and found one within minutes. Its a bit pricey but why not?

I would put one on regardless

It's good insurance for sure.

well, i wonder if the lack of a shroud is making it run hotter as it lessens the fan impact.

got the pump off, rad out (those tranny lines were tough) and gooseneck off, going to see if I can find a gooseneck locally, if not i'll go with the billet bob suggested. The pump is a chrysler one, has the pentastar on it. fins look ok but are a bit uneven like they are a bit corroded, not sure if they are or if that's the way it looked when installed. has some wht crud inside by the shaft. The pump cover has some sfc scale inside of it up along the lwr hose inlet and just inside where the pump seats.....I don't care much for that at all.

rad does not look blocked but has wht crud around every hole so there is def some impediment to the flow.

rad is a 3 row, that surprises me.

I do not see any space for a shroud mount - is it possible it was mounted via clips instead of screws? there are 2 slots on each side of the rad.

i'd really rather go with a new rad, there has got to be a bolt-in made somewhere.

One of my pet leaves is not seeing the correct rad under the hood. If you have to recore the original, that's what you should do. That car is so original, it would be a shame to not use it. My .02.

I agree with Matt, the incorrect radiator only means you couldn't find the right one. Nothing wrong with a re core. ..

I also agree, would prefer to have the correct rad....we will see what the shop says. One of the side brackets is loose, not sure if it would need to be rewelded or if it can be used as is. And I will not put this or any other rad back in it w/o a shroud, so I need to 1, get this rad squared away and usable, and 2, find a shroud that fits. the one Dave mentioned is the right size for the rad but again, how does it mount?

you know what else makes no sense to me? both inlet and outlet are on the same side in this rad.

You're putting too much thought into this Mark, don't try to reengineer what has already been engineered and proven. Clean and replace what you have with oem parts and it'll go down the road trouble free for another 100K.

understood.........hopefully the guy @ the shop doesn't laugh too hard when he looks @ this thing

Thanks Grahsshahpah....

thats my best oriental accent, sorry!

I would say it's going to cost $500 - $600+ to recore the radiator.

If it was my car......

And if the radiator was shot.......

I would get the 26" yoke from Chris and put in a 26" radiator and shroud and a 7 blade fan and a thermal fan clutch.

Result = bulletproof cooling system. Just my .02........

i do not like the idea of tearing the entire front end off the car......
