He did do a great job on it. The horrible thing about it though, is he's probably going to have to take it back off, and go back to factory. It looks like the intake is too tall!

Did he not measure the additional height? I have to use a shorter air cleaner screw in the middle of the carb so the hood does not come into contact with it when closed.

I would get a complete 3 piece kick down setup. You have a lot more options with throttle linkages, and kick down linkages ect with that. If you decide you want to go back to a stock high manifold you have a backup linkage. I use an edelbrock performer on my 440. It's close to stock high, so no clearance issues. It makes power from idle to 5,500 that's perfect for a street car. The performer rpm doesn't make power till 1,500 rpm and it's taller.....
 
I'd be willing to entertain that thought. Looks nicely done.

Being a set up for a 440, would it work on a 383? They heave different kits listed for B/RB engines. I'll ask him if he wants to sell.

Not sure if hes gonna try and make it work or not. He had fair warning when putting it together it wouldn't work, but he was hell bent lol. Hes just now getting the front end on the car. Hes been putting the car together piece by piece for the last 2 years.

Yea. I'm hanging on to the old intake (also an eddy performer
for b motor). I want to switch up (cam/intake) to see how I come out. I drive a lot, have too out of necessity. I'm no speed racer, but I'm usually not chugging about at 800-900 rpms just enjoying the scenery either. Down the road I may make other changes as $$$ allows.
 
Did you need to use a drop base air cleaner also?
Nope. I even have the carb on a spacer. I put a good sized dab of playdough on the highest point of the air cleaner lid and closed the hood completely. The play dough came out untouched. I probably have a good inch maybe inch and a quarter of air between the hood and the highest part of the lid.

The 383 is a "B" engine and a 440 is a "RB" engine. Intakes are not interchangable

Right. Not suggesting swapping intakes. Just the bracket. I don't know if the same bracket between the two are different.....maybe in length were they bolt to the manifold...just guessing.

No the only problem was hood clearance. Formals have absolutely no room under the hood. When he was putting the motor together, I was keeping my fingers crossed that it would work (I want to install one on my car badly!). But theres just no space...

Heres with a straight edge going across the fenders. The hood will give a little more space, but just don't see an air cleaner fitting under there...

 
Oh and also, Deff keep that intake!! Great intakes if you have the room for em! I loved the one on top of my old 400. Great throttle response, and nice torque throughout the rpms of the engine.
