Refurbish time

Got it, very cool! I will be looking them up next year for sure, and at $500 well within the budget.

Good deal. I don't know what his prices will be next year, and you probably have to show him your heads and what you want to do (I did). I walked away feeling good which is more than I can say for a lot of other "shops". I would definitely go back again.

Agreed no gaskets, I do however put a ring of Indian head or high tak sealant around each port before sliping manifold on and tightening.

I took a light sander to them this morning...just enough to smooth off all the black sooty carbon exhaust residue from the ports.

'Tis coming along. Just mocking up the new position for the carb. I'm gonna have to futz around with the carb linkage b/c it was set up for lower style performer intake manifold. I love how spic n span new aluminum intake manifolds look - almost hate to run it. Nah.
I thought about swapping another cam in earlier...something with more profile. Gas mileage isn't all that great to start with, esp. when I put my foot it...so decided to just leave well enough alone...for now. A bit hotter than stock but not too much.

You going to put any paint on those heads?

Yeah. They're just sitting there right now (the bolts are finger snug). I got a bunch of mopar/chrysler colors....and turquoise, hemi orange....chrysler blue, red. The rest of the motor is turquoise.

Then turquoise it is! When you gonna have it running?

Hopefully by this weekend. I'm not sure about the turquoise color though. I really never liked that color on any engine, seems kind of "tame"...but I don't want it to be hemi orange either as the bottom end is turquoise. I hate the color.

I used a hi-temp paint called "Cast Aluminum" and it looks like you have Edelbrocks on your engine. I fooled a lot of people.

I'm liking that visual. Honestly, painted engines look super nice as long as you only drive up and down the trailer ramp a few times a year. If however your someone who likes/wants to drive more regularly (esp. during the warm months) the nice paint begins to get grimy and dirty and in jersey it is illegal to pwr wash engines at car washes -- they'll slap a huge fine on you. Anyways, maybe I paint cast aluminum...or maybe just not paint at all. Even though they've been hot tanked there's still somewhat of a slightly oily residue on the surface. I suspect the paint will not want to adhere to that very well.

It will go well with the Champion radiator after you get rid of the flexible hose.

BTW, wash the heads with brake cleaner. After that, even jello will stick to them.

Really? Why would you want to make people think you have high-performance parts when you pop the hood, if you really don't? Isn't that like putting on a chrome diff cover?

1. I never pop my hood if possible.
2. I didn't paint them that color to make them look like anything.
That's what other people saw when they looked at them.
I liked the color.
And it went well with the people who also said, Hey nice Lincoln.

You've gotta coat them with something or else they'll oxidize. At least hit them with some Eastwood cast blast or the like.
