The 1965 Polara/Monaco/880 thread!!

Please tell me that that thing is still together!

Well, looks like it sold. but hopefully not for scrap. It was in mid western Canada....

Just picked up a 65 Polara 2 door that has been in the family for a while. Has been sitting for a few decades...time to get to work!

Here she is in all of her glory. Some bad rust on the back "quarters" other than that, pretty solid. A dented front fender that I have a replacement for.
Current game plan: Kind of just looking to get it road worthy- engine/brakes etc and the bad rust repaired. Then I will start doing some body prep work before eventually getting it repainted the factory color. Most likely at that time I will start the engine mods. Anybody else tackle a project similar to this caliber and have a strategy that worked well?

Suggestions on how to approach the back quarters? Its basically from below the trim down that will need to be addressed.

Nice one, man! If she runs at all as doesn't have any potential catastrophic issues, I'd say go for the brakes first. Once you get her safe that way, get the engine running best as it can in a stock configuration. After that you can see whats up with the sus/steering and see if they tranny is operating properly.

Once you're up and running stock, you can start playing with mods. It's just easier to start with the baseline of a stock motor, that way you're pretty clear on what happened when things go haywire.

Nice car! Looking forward to see her come back around!

Looks like a decent starting point to me. I had similar issues with my rear quarters when I fixed mine up and the only option was building them. Thankfully my Dad was a bodyman - he gave me some pointers and provided some tools, then wandered by from time to time and kinda watched me go. Didn't turn out too bad, and they're still holding up fairly well today (repairs done in '90).

Yeah, the rust on the quarters is one of the few things I wont address myself. Other than some (not so great) experience with bondo, I have little experience with body work. Excited to dig in. Only hauled it home a week and a half ago so Im still getting it set up. Started draining fluids/pulling spark plugs etc. Think I'm just going to yank the engine to make things a little easier to assess.

I love the fact that there are so many guys with 65 Dodge Polaras, 880s, & Monacos on this site. It is so helpful when looking for parts or working on your car. This will be invaluable during your restoration.

Mine is just a Polara with a bench seat and I have really enjoyed it.

We must be spread all over the place. Didn't see any 65s at Carlisle and i haven't seen any others around home.

I live in Southern Indiana (Bloomington) and I have not seen another 65 Polara and I've had mine for 2 1/2 years. There is a local guy with a 66 Newport same engine so we talk a lot.

I think that it might be the case. Mine hasn't left the garage in 15 years...... It is going to the body shop in November though.

My Dad used to have a 65' 880 when I was a kid that was dark blue with blue interior, that he always said it had a 426 Wedge. He even had some documentation that it was an old FBI car of some sort. I remember riding in it & it was fast. He traded it off for something else before I got to driving age. I sure wish I could have gotten that car from him.

had this intake on my 383 in my 65 880 rag for awhile . touched the hood pad with the air cleaner tops . with a solid cam and headers , factory presto duel point . it ran , lol .

Dodge Monaco & Polara 65-66 Lower Quarter Panel 2 Door

Anyone ever hear anything about these ^^^? I am thinking I may give them a go. As I stated before, I am not experienced when it comes to doing body work. I would maybe be tempted to give these a try.

General update on my rebuild: Pulled the engine...have it torn down. Looking for shops in my area to help with the rebuild. Just ordered some parts to begin rebuilding the braking system.

It will be a crap shoot
This year range has totally different body lines
65-66 are identical
67-68 are identical
69-70 are identical

I may be wrong but this will not cover all the years listed with a single panel
