Yes, Stan really did look like that when he was younger . ;)

Seam sealed the trunk, then applied some undercoating. Applied the duplicolor spatter paint. Not having a good time painting this trunk. None of the coatings are cooperating with me. The undercoating didn't come out the greatest. Now the spatter paint doesnt want to work with the undercoating. Its turining brown in spots. Looks like dog **** right now. Gonna get a few more cans of the spatter after this dries for several days.

Spatter paint does look very factory correct IMO. Hopefully a few more coats will fix everything.

Well.. Im pretty lost. Gave the paint a few days in hot weather to dry. Picked up a few more cans of spatter paint, and sprayed it today. O'riellys is the only local place that has the stuff. Pretty sure I bought all of this paint available in north east FL, after visiting al the stores lol. All the stores only carry 2 cans of it on the shelf. Todays store had 3 though surprisingly.

Anyway the stuff is still turning brown damnit!! It dries/looks fine in some spots, and crappy in others. Not worried about the center of the trunk, as it will be covered with the mat. But the quarter panels have me pissed though..

Yup, I'm thinking of painting the whole thing in medium gray then painting spatter clear over that to give the right effect for my car.

Ummm... My splatter came out perfect. Just as expected.
But I gave it two coats of primer first...

They had another "trunk paint" at autozone that looked somewhat good. Not quite spatter though. Thats whats killing me. This stuff looks SO much like the original paint. I really want it to work.

Idk what the deal is. The undercoating is supposed to be paintable. It goes on fine in spots, and shitty in others. My only other hope is, today before painting, I sprayed down a couple spots with soap and water to make sure it wasn't contaminated, and it seemed to take a little of the stain out. Maybe Ill wash the whole trunk after it dries, and see what happens. Other then that no clue..

You undercoated the interior of the trunk and sprayed splatter paint over the undercoat?
Ricky, wtf were you thinking?

I did! lol

Seen it done several times with great results. Trying to replicate "factory". Thats how it was before I stripped it all down.

It's bleeding through the spatter paint. I think you need some sort of primer or other paint to seal it first.

From what I've seen of the spatter paint, it appears to not have a lot of solids in the mix. I've painted it with good results, but not over undercoating. I would spray a coat gray primer (I like to stay within the same brand) over everything and try the spatter paint again.

I primed the trunk pan with spray can and then applied spatter paint from Autozone (they have a few different colors - gray, aqua, etc) - came out great. The only thing I noticed - the spatter paint is water soluble even after it dries. So I applied a couple coats of mat clear coat over it and all is good now.

This is the best I can get it. I layed down a coat of primer over the bad spots, and resprayed new spatter paint. It still has some bad spots, that grew a little after a little drying time.

Was talking about it over on the blumo board too, and think we figured out whats happening. The solvents in the spatter are breaking down the undercoating, and making it wet again, in turn mixing with the spatter. Its still doing it with the primer over it too.. But its good enough for me. I'm done messing with it lol
