What did you do to your C-body today....

Rustyratrod over on FABO swears batteries will last a lifetime if properly taken care of. I forgot his methods, but he is very adamant that we are why batteries die, due to lack of maintenance.

It didn’t help that I used it once on 2007. Again in 2008 when I cranked my engine on the frame. Then it sat until 2019. Maybe using it a couple of times to jump start something. I charged it a couple of times during its rest period but it did get pretty low a few times.
I was surprised it lasted all summer.
Now to decide on whether or not I get an OE style original for $260, or get one I can put my caps and decals on to look kind of like OE. $160. I did buy a cap and decal kit for $25 or $30. My problem with the cap kit is finding a group 24 that is flat on top. Closest I found is at O’Reilys.

I may be wrong about this, but I thought big block cars used a Group 27 battery, instead of a Group 24. Maybe the battery spec is tied to the presence of A/C or just the 440 engine option. Also, I think a NAPA battery might be a good choice for a flat top battery you could use to affix your decals, etc.

It also seems to bring my garage up to temperature pretty quickly.
That's cool!

I lived in Carson City, Nevada, for two years, serving a church as an Associate Pastor. We had a Church Member that taught Body Shop at Carson High. He and a colleague, who taught Auto Shop, used to hold a clinic at his house every Saturday. "Need you car worked on, bring it over!" It was, to me, a very cool thing to offer. I took my '70 Challenger there a few times.

It can get quite cold in CC; I experienced 5 below on several occasions. Even so, Jim would open both garage doors on those Saturdays. (His was a drive-through garage.) He kept it warn via a wood-stove.

I find myself wondering how many of you do it living in cold country?

From what I found in my research, the 383 2bbl used the group 24. 440’s had the group 27. I am not sure of the 383 4bbl or if A/C made a difference. I had found a list somewhere, but I don’t have any second opinion or source to verify 100%. I will take any proof to the contrary. Sometimes general maintenance parts didn’t have very good documentation.
I haven’t checked out NAPA yet.
Thanks

That’s awesome.. A little TLC on that air cleaner and the engine compartment would be perfect. Just say’en
I wanted to leave the air cleaner as it reminds me of the past with this car. But with everything else cleaned up it does start to look out of place.
I do have it on my list for this winter.

Spent a relaxing day in the shop, prepping and painting the 300's battery tray I got from Murray Park. Bead blasted and POR15'd it and the support bracket. Then gave it a new coat of black paint. Cleaned and chased the threads on the mounting bolts. Ready for assembly Tomorrow.
While the paint was drying, I started on installing the new windlace.

Pushed er back to pop the hood and check the oil after my last 75 mph run down the freeway. Tip top shape nice to smoke a bit thru the valve seals and not the rings for a change. Boy can this thing crop dust a tailgater if it wants too Lol!!! Anyways took her to the store to get supplies (pineapple juice & rum) and then when I was pulling into the driveway the boss said let’s go somewhere for your birthday. AND let’s take your car because it’s BE you tiful outside. It really is by the way.

I just bought one for my Newport yesterday at Costco, a group 27. 93 bucks. I wasn't dissapointed as I thought they might be in the 100s today. Batteries and tires have gone out of sight!!!

It was a nice day for a quick spin. Balmy and 40 degrees. Took a wreath and light bulb over to my Father-in-law’s house, picked up some Charcoal for my Big Green Egg took the long way home and stopped by the Governor’s Country house for a quick Photo with the multi-colored bison.

My insurance company had a **** fit about my woodstove in my garage and threatened to drop up (which they did anyway later on, but that's another story) so I had to take it out...

I ended up after 4 cold winters deciding to invest a bit, $2500 later I have a 50,000 BTU natural gas heater in my shop, which keeps it nice and toasty all winter long.

Grand total in gas last year extra was about $300 with it running from November to April....

crude but effective. 15000 b.t.u. $35.00 spring clearance item at home depot.View attachment 331889
I had a similar set up, but with my shop layout the heat was inconsistent and it quickly ate a 20lb tank, I found I got about 12-14 hrs before a tank was empty, in my area its $22 plus tax to fill a 20lb tank.

I did the math and it began my thinking of investment.

The bonus is nothing being cold when I'm working, no cold tools, no cold metal, etc...

My 2 cents worth
