What did you do to your C-body today....

Likely last drive of the season if it snows this weekend. Drove to recycling center to get rid of some plastic, and then to Walmart to get tennis balls for the dog.(The puppy is only 8 weeks, not quite ready for fetch)
Got back and checked my plugs. Look pretty even and about the right heat and mixture.

Drove 4 hours to pick up a windshield. Totally worth it. Been on the road all day. Can’t wait to get the windshield swap done.

Bought a spare tire hold down, center dash ashtray, license plate light housing, and lower steering column cover from C Body Bob. Bought the base for my air filter element housing from Move n Up. Bought some black lug nuts, Mcguires VLR cleaner, steering box seals, and and air filter element from O'Reillys. Got great knowledge about headlight harnesses from Cbarge and live4theking. Bought the Putco harness along with the Hella H1 and H4 conversion kits from. Amazon. FINALLY bought a service manual for my car! Had a nice discussion with tvaluke about his awesome white interior in his 300. Then went out into my garage to start my baby just to hear it. Thanks again everyone for helping me out!

FYI.. heads up in the Putco harness. I installed the same on my 77 NYB, it works fantastically.. But the headlight door would close as designed with the new harness. Had to have a separate harness relay made by “Big John” to get them to close as designed. You may or may not have the same issue.. just my 2 cents.

The armrest between the front seats of my Sport Fury has two big scratches. The vinyl became a little bit dry from the California sun...

I thought about replacing the vinyl, but finding the right color and style and shipping to Germany was too difficult and expensiv.
The second best option was to turn the armrest upside down.

That was an easy fix and looks like brand new ;)

Now that the cracks are hidden you can add clear tape to keep them from spreading. I used tape meant for vinyl repair. I also did what you did for my cracked headrests. The cracks were facing out, so I switched them and now the cracks face each other. Less noticeable.

Spliced in 2 pieces of crossmember and replaced the top cylinders works perfect now. Floor pans next

Took the day off but still checked in. Not smart. With the remaining time changed the trans gasket to orange "REAL GASKETS TENNESSEE" silicone gasket. I thought it was going to be softer. I'm glad its not considering it will be doing its job hot. Also replaced my 180 with 160 thermostat. I met a guy with a 340 6 pack and contrary to official 6bbl tuning instructions he swears by a 160. I'll give it a shot. Of course everything was greasy afterwards so took the opportunity to spray the engine bay with degreaser and hope it didn't go where it shouldn't. Random thought - I wish cars cars used beer for trans and engine. That would make my liquor store runs more efficient. .

Love the beer idea we should have the brains and mechanical ability on here to get it done.

I put the crack that used to be at the top of my steering wheel at the bottom, it’s much less distracting down there while driving.

Just curious as to what the reasoning is for running a cooler thermostat.

The neutral safety switch was showing some issues and I wanted to replace it and the lower bushing on the console shifter shaft had some serious wear.

The spring was shot in the old...

All was good, I checked for continuity in park and neutral, but the reverse lights weren't right in the new one. All looked good with the pan off... but the switch needs just a little more travel to work right. This was a Standard brand switch, but none of this stuff is all that great anymore. I buttoned it up for now... at least it starts reliably in park now.

Any suggestions on brand or general recommendations? When I got my buckets car last week, it initially refused to start except in neutral (thanks @71Polara383 for the tip). No issue since then, but I might as well fix it this winter.

Not really.

I got bitten by the "NOS" hype on a switch I bought to replace the Standard. Didn't work at all. Probably a return or something like that.

I've been having some heat problems that are fixable but I had some recent conversations with guys who have 6bbls and they both swore by a 160 thermostat. That wasn't in my plan but figured I would try it. So kind of an experiment. Also when I tested the thermostat in the pot it opened at 160 but not fully open till 175, so I figured its not too out of line with my 180.

Last day of this season's cruising...

Put her in the garage with some ground clearance, in anticipation of the chores that I've planned for this winter.

Engine are designed to run at a certain
Temp usually around 180 or 190. Running it cooler is not the best thing for it. Depending on the engine and rad the temp may still get up to a higher temp even with a 160 installed.

Decided to polish up the wagon before covering it for the winter, not that I have driven it much in the past 5 years...:( But at least it has a warm dry spot now in the new shop and hope to have time to work on it maybe later this winter, or next year for sure.
