I could be wrong, but that looks like possibly a weld patch, and the yellow may be leaves, or it may be expandable foam. I've seen some sound-deadener on the inside of quarterpanels look like it made a seam, but this picture sure looks funny.

Given how common lower rear quarter rust is on these cars, It would be unusual if the things had not been spliced. Same holds true for the rear window channel, they pretty much always rusted out under the vinyl top. Water gets into the trunk and in no time the trunk floor and lower quarters are toast. If the trunk floor on this one was spliced, some one did a really nice job from what I can see. The rear quarter from the inside looks like black sound suppression material is bubbled up just to the rear of you highlight line. Usually means rust or bondo underneath.

Hidden headlights make THE difference, got a soft spot for that design element.

Aside from arguably the hidden headlights there isnt anything better

Which always made me wonder what the big deal is with the Sport Fury GT. The 300 has all the same elements, (hidden headlights, 440) it’s roomier and more stylish than anything else since there was only ONE type of rear window, AND you can find them in any price range and any configuration in various stages of condition all day, every day, none of this “RARE, 1 of” crap.

Ok, now I’m running for cover.....

The 300's are fat at 300lbs heavier than a Sport Fury, :poke:

An opinion on why a GT will be worth a lot more than a comparable 300, as explained to me by an older guy years ago, and it makes sense -

People reach back to what they knew from childhood, and for family cars there were always more Furys in households than 300s. So people want to go back to old memories, and want something they wish Dad would've bought instead of the 4-door.

And the SF GT is undoubtedly more of a musclecar in appearance, if only due to the wheels , stripes and exh tips.

So youre thinking if a kid grew up in a 318 four door Fury he went through life wishing Dad had bought the GT version?

I cannot agree with that. I can't think of the last time I saw a 69-71 300 FS around here. And looking for them on ebay, there's not a lot there, either.
Yes, you can find them, but you're either gonna wait 1-3 years for the one you really want, or you're gonna compromise on some major feature (TNT or not, colors, condition, etc). Or you get lucky...

Not necessarily going thru life that way (although some of us surely did!), but when the kid grows up and wants something, he/she remembers the Fury from childhood, and therefore might be drawn more toward a GT than to getting a 300. I know if I came across a nice silver-blue 66 Fury II sedan with 383-4 and fenderskirts, it would be interesting to have, but I'd rather have a GT.

Again - just a theory a guy told me.

Yes, Dale finds a lot of them, maybe it's just the 'all day' part I disagree with. And I still stand that if you want something specific, you're gonna have to be patient.

And back to Samplingman's comparison, comparing back to the GT -- 1970 or 71 2-dr 300s with TNT (which is the only truly comparable car) are not common in the overall pool of 69-71 300s. 71 300s seem to be uncommon out of all 3 years, too.

Being more of a Dodge guy I have been perplexed recently by the sudden love for the GT . Not really a hot topic until about 15 years ago, that seems to be when they started to get noticed .
I disagree that the 300 is the only comp to the Fury as stated . Why not the Polara ?

I've got em all, and in order, the best one is the 1969 - 1971 300 overall - it just has everything I want at least and is the best styled of the bunch:

Second are the 1969 - 1973 Dodge Monacos or Polaras (I think the styling is just more shapely overall than the 1970 - 1971 SFGTs and I like the more open rear wheel openings of the Dodges):

Third are the 1970 - 1971 Sport Fury GTs:

I love em all, and the overall scores between the 3 are just a few points apart on my scale. But overall, fuselages rule! :)

I can respect that opinion and I understand but disagree, here's why. The outside having great lines is only part of the score on the point sheet. You then have to look inside, since the Chrysler has the weakest dash face of the three in these years you gotta give it to the Dodge and Plymouth since they are virtually identical
......... that is not a flattering photo of my 70 ....

Hmmm, I thought the dash on the 71 300s was nice, with the form of the dashpad matching the looped bumpers theme, and the 71 300 bucket seats are clearly the best of the bunch. But we are just splitting hairs now!

BTW, I actually like the 1971 Polaras better than the 1970s just slightly, but can't find images that are really suitable for any of them. You are holding out on Google images. :poke:
