I know this isn't CL...but I need to R&R! I decided that today was the day to go get the car title in my name. Had all the paperwork in order according to the texas dmv website. Strolled into the tax collectors office feeling so good. Handed the broad sitting behind the desk my paperwork. She looked at it like a it was written in Mandarin Chinese. She took it to someone behind a two way glass then came back telling me that the VIN wasn't in the data base anymore and I would have to send it to the regional office for a bonded title. It gets better. I looked at her and tried to explain...even gave her the title which included clean lien paperwork from the dealership after it was paid for. She walked back to the behind glass person. She comes walking back and says again...."you need to get a bonded title". I again tried again to explain that the original owner was my dad and he died over 30 years ago and I have a notified letter of hereship. (or however it's spelled) I also explained that according to the website, I brought all necessary paperwork. Not only did she keep interrupting me, she told me that they are not the state. She handed me the paperwork for a bonded title and told me to take it up with the state. I'm on hold with the regional office and I'm livid. Don't mess with a german/lithuanian texas born half breed. Especially, if that lithuanian dad was born in Bridgewater, Mass. Scraper is what they called themselves. God help the person that answers the phone.

Finally got someone...have to call Austin now. Really? Glass of wine is needed now. Ohhhh, I miss the good old days. :icon_weed:

Arrrggghhhh.....told now to call regional again. Ohh, the sanity! Please send wine! Beer! Hell, I don't care just send it!

Here's a start ................ :eek:hthedrama:

Marian. Might I suggest you and your hubby take a 72 hour pass some Friday afternoon and buzz down to Austin and spend all weekend parting down on 6th street and drop into the proper office for your bonded title first thing Monday morning. If they hassle you just lean over their desk and barf on their key board! Great weekend, and they know what you really think of their bonded title...WIN WIN

Sounds good. Perhaps another piercing and another tat. Hubby is too vanilla. LOL

I feel your pain, somewhere in my cars travels it gave up it's Original Ontario Title to go East, and when it came back they mis-entered the Vin, so I have an ownership, but it's not 100% correct, and it was done when the previous owner re-registered the car in Ontario, so when I go to change it, I'll make Andy come with me so if they ask for the previous owner to sign anything I can say "Okay just a second he's right here"

I finally spoke with a nice lady at the regional office. Apparently, a title receipt isn't acceptable. She is now asking if I have the old license plate off the car. Went through several hundred pics of the car...could barely see it. Went through original paper work and viola..registration tag for the license plate. My mom was so anal with records after dad died. Thank you mom! Still can't find original title. Sent email to my brother to see if he could find it in Mom's filing cabinet. If she were alive today, she could tell me exactly where it was. <sigh> So....off to call regional office. Hope they can help with this information. If not...I'll need more wine.

So...gave them the last plate number and they found if. Mom registered it until 1984. (love ya mom) Because she passed they want a letter of testimentory (sp) and the executor to sign over title to me. That would be my brother. He will also need to sign an AFFIDAVIT OF HEIRSHIP FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE. What a pain in the bottom side. For those who live in a title state and your car is old. Learn from my lesson. To puke on a keyboard after a night on 6th street would have been so much easier!

As they say: Thread is useless without pics. ;)

For something legitimate like this, it is worth the $50 or so to just go to a Department of Motor Vehicle services specialist who knows their stuff and they can handle it for you the first time. I did that with a one of my cars and now know what to do to get something titled in my name without hassle or bonding (the latter may vary by state though) or further need to see the specialist.

abt 3 weeks ago I went to the DMV to get the title transferred for my GP........now this is the main office in harrisburg, mind you. The prev owner had already signed off and the title was notarized so it was going to be an easy transaction. He does the paperwork, prints out the title and gives it to me.....well being the detail prick that I am I look it over and discover that not only does he have 2 numbers in the VIN trans-versed but he has the prev owners first name and my last name on it. (for reference i still have the incorrect name on the pink slip!) I brought it to his attn and it was corrected, printed out a good one then. Had i walked away from the window and went back in 5 mins later it would have been a huge pain to get it corrected. I had it titled in my name for 3 weeks before the car actually got here.

I do not ever sit on a title, car can be registered in the future but w/o a title you can't do anything else, even kills the price when trying to sell. I laugh when I see these incompetent idiots trying to sell a car they've bought and owned for 8-10 or more years and put thousands into and they don't have a title, then they try to tell you it'll be easy to get one. My Q to them: "Well if it's so damned easy imbecile then why haven't you done it already?"

i hope for your sake Marian that you get it straightened out.......this is just an unfortunate issue that will take some legwork to correct.
