Havn't really been messing with the 440 the last few weeks.. Been to busy dealing with another engine.. A dreaded 4.7 in my ram.
Finally had enough dough to get her fixed.. Thank god its done and over.. Luckily though, no work or dirty hands for me.. Just handing over a nice sum of $2600! Uhg..
Found a shop through some friends that I was comfortable with working on the ole girl. They did a block test, and sure enough my heads were warped. Chrysler says that the 4.7 heads cannot be machined, and must be replaced. The shop owner who I've talked to quite a bit, claimed to have had a ton of 4.7 heads machined, and had no problems afterwards. I really couldnt beat the price either, so went with it. So heads went out to be machined, along with a valve job, and new lifters. Found a used timing cover to replace mine that had some gouges in it, along with a new radiator, and a bunch of other stuff, shes finally back on the road! As mentioned, total came to $2600, where as the local chrysler dealer wanted $2300 just in labor. Not including any parts.
Once all the plastic crap, and what not was removed, I was blown away by just how small the 4.7 really is! lol Makes some decent power though, for being so tiny..
All back together
Alright, back to the 440!
Everything looks good on the passenger head, and since I dont have as much $$ to play with as I was hoping, gonna stay with the current heads. Installed new valve stem seals, along with the new springs. Driver side soon to come...
