The sub frame project has begun..

Hey Mr. Fix It,are you reusing your old subframe bushings or did you find some new ones? I'm trying to locate new ones myself or see if something will cross-reference from another mopar/car/truck.Do you happen to have any of the factory part numbers for those subframe bushings?

My c body has what I call shims not bushings. .

I have to make new ones. Since mine are pretty rusted n swollen.
The rest is bolts n nuts with minimal aligning. ..

I think the bushing thing came in later, my 69's do not have them.
Imperials may have had them earlier.

So here is an update on the firewall. the white didn't lay down very well as I had hoped with a lot of bleed through.
I have sanded a lot to smooth it out.
Not sure what to do next, leave it in a scuffed up state or to try again with a different paint or sanded some more and leave it in the base silver.
The scuffed up state gives it a certain patina look which would suit the car.
The silver base give it an aluminum clean look.
The white was a bit too shiny for my taste given I am not restoring the entire car and the white is a bit of an off gloss white.
The white paint turned out to be an RV white.

Have a look and comment if you wish.

here is the base silver which hides a number of sins in the firewall as well.

the white seems to draw attention to the flaws..

I would shoot it with another coat or two of the white(if that's going to be your body color).White is hard to cover a darker base unless you've used a sealer or a light colored primer.

Definitely shoot another coat of white until it's properly sealed. Don't worry about some orange peel...the factory never did. As for the paint appearing too shiny, don't worry- it's under the hood it will be dusty/grimy soon enough.

Once you have all the accessories and motor back in place etc, most of the flaws will be covered up and having the firewall white is going to look much better and original on a white car.

I agree. I sanded a bit more then left it for the night.

I decided to polish one of the door sill trims instead.

The had a nice blue hue to them from a previous paint job. - I hate when people don't take the time to REMOVE TRIM!!!!:soapbox::soapbox::soapbox:
They are a bit rough but certainly look much better polished..

I did one and had the other to do yet.

Looks good. I polished up mine and shot it with clear and a hardener. Time will tell if that was the right move. I figure it can be reversed if needed in the future.

Well not much has happened lately other than scrubbing some smaller pieces.

I placed an order with Rock Auto which arrived extremely quickly. almost

Auto zone had very competitive pricing plus online 20% off for home delivery or AFO, APO's and that other mysterious delivery places.. :D

So after about 2 1/2 weeks of waiting for a phone back they finally contacted me and I should have the brake parts and or miscellanous bits in a week or so.

worth the wait to save close to $200 plus the savings over top of what other auto suppliers were quoting me as well.

After all is said and done, I figure I am saving close to $1000 over top off the Mopar restoration suppilers here locally..
Even the local UAP auto store has crazy pricing on some of the common parts..

Well I got busy again today after cutting more firewood.

I decided after thinking about trying to match the paint closer to the outer colour with reservations to sand the firewall and repaint it in the metallic silver. see repeated photos and decide for yourself
No supplier of paint would give me straight answers as to how close they could get it.
I think the silver is going to give the under the hood a fresh look as well

If I decide to paint the car silver then I'm all set!:yaayy: I doubt that though.. I like the white and red combo too much.

I also have hung all the painted ready to go parts on an empty wall in the garage to free up space on the work benches.

Lots of parts on the way from Rock Auto, DelCity & Auto Zone as well as a few other sources.

Got to stay organized so it doesn't overwhelm me with parts all over the place when they arrive!

It looks outstanding (!!!) but you're doing such a fantastic job that I'd think it would be a detriment to pop the hood and find a different color under there.

Thanks Commando1(It's Stan right?) but I have to draw the line on the how much I spend on this driver.

Trust me it will look great when it is done!

I wish I had that 67 of yours in a ragtop version to start with. - Then I wouldn't settle for anything less than perfection.
Heck even in the fast top you have, it is near a perfect car that you bought and you don't have to strip it down and stick it on a rotisserie.

I wish mine was a mechanical rebuild but it has had rust issues that I have to deal with to make it a safe fun ride.

i can only dream of the day I hit he numbers on the lottery so I can find and afford the perfect ragtop! - (I have to start playing though) :D

The perfect ragtop to me would be a 66 Polara 500 with factory 383/727 in original colours either white on red or red on white )
Maybe do a 518 trans upgrade to make it better on gas plus bring the revs down to save the engine.
The front buckets and console a must.
Have a look at this one. It is a beautiful example of Dodge engineering and colour combination.

finally fitted the Stub frame yesterday. I have to still get a few bolts into place and line it up but it now looks like it should.
Freed up a good bit of space in the garage as well!

I'm no purest by any stretch but I'd side with Stan on this one, body color would look better. Or black. But, nice work none the less.
